If you're in the mood for a sophisticated dining spot that's not too stuffy, head straight for Solera. As you enter, the softly lit bar beckons. Sit at one of the tables and sip a cocktail before moving into the dining room, where soft colors and photographs complement nicely appointed tables. The enclosed, garden-like patio, complete with heat lamps, makes a perfect setting for dining alfresco. Chef/owner Goose Sorenson presents an eclectic menu full of flavors from around the world. Start with Thai-style calamari with spiced peanuts, mint and cilantro. The slightly hot and sweet spices penetrate the slaw under the perfectly breaded rings. It is the best calamari in town. Other appetizers include Hudson Valley foie gras, mussels in garlic, wine and tomatoes, a divine cheese platter served with housemade flatbread, and rare ahi tuna with soba noodles. Exciting salads include butter-leaf lettuce with Maytag blue, Caesar, and a tomato and avocado on greens with crispy bacon. Entrées bring salmon with bacon risotto, bouillabaisse with coconut, a pork chop and duck with sweet potatoes. A New York steak, salmon with smoked bacon, cioppino, pomegranate rubbed lamb, and mac and cheese with an adult twist with the addition of scallops. Goose's cooking finesse extends to the fabulous side dishes that serve to heighten the flavor of the main course. Excellent desserts that include a most decadent chocolate tasting and crème brûlée finish the meal. The wine list is terrific with special tastings that offer great fun to guests take place each week. Service is tops. The patio is spectacular weather permitting. Solera brings great dining to Denver.
