Satchel’s Market is unique in every way---from the time you drive up and see this totally funky exterior with garage doors open to the patio to the small interior where 30 lucky people can grab a seat and enjoy fabulous food. Bright colors, a community table and some interesting artwork make up the ambience. The bar at one end gives four diners a chance to eat or wait for a table. Start with a small dirt pot of delicious homemade bread and oil. The menu changes weekly but is divided into small, medium and large plates. Small brings Greek feta cheese mousse, housemade fries with three dipping sauces, and organic mixed greens. The medium list offers beef Carpaccio, divine duck confit wonton, clam chowder, and the best ahi tuna tartars with avocado, soy mustard and wonton crisp. The large plates of the week featured cedar planked halibut, wild Maine mussels risotto, marinated chicken breast with asparagus, marinated flat iron steak with goat cheese farotto, and rosemary-ricotta spinach ravioli. The organic burger with fries or salad is offered nightly but on Thursday the burger and beer are ten bucks. End with beignets, granola cherry nut cookies, panna cotta or truffles. There is a great brunch on weekends as well. Service is terrific with friendly staff, and a great wine list adds to the fun. Each Saturday there is a special community table fixed price dinner. Looks certainly are deceiving: when you see Satchel’s, you have no idea of the great meal ahead. And after one visit, you are hooked. This is one great neighborhood eatery.
