Immerse yourself in the old world charm and contemporary flavors of Denver’s most formal dining room. Artifacts date back to the Napoleonic era and include a set of pistols believed to have belonged to the famous general himself. Replicas of battle and exploration flags hang in silent majesty on the walls. Red velvet furniture with elegant china, glassware and serving pieces add to the sophistication of the room. The staff caters to your every whim as if you were royalty. The food has claimed several awards over the years. Be sure to take the time to peruse the extensive wine list, which has captured the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine. The famous melba toast arrives as one is seated along with an amuse to appease your hunger. The menu changes often, but don’t miss the signature entrées: roasted rack of Colorado lamb and pan-roasted veal. Start with seared sweetbreads, escargot in garlic butter or smoked salmon. The tableside-prepared Caesar salad has just the right amount of garlic and anchovy. More entrées include ginger-coriander-crusted ahi, Dover sole and a tender buffalo filet. Indulge in a sweet soufflé or a slice of cheesecake for dessert. A plate of addictive macaroons comes with the bill. The Brown Palace also holds afternoon tea in the lobby, which is truly fabulous—but book in advance, as the high tea experience is very popular.
