Enter this delightful Italian trattoria and view the one large room. The first thing you see is the beautiful bar area where you can enjoy drinks or dinner. Tables are nicely spaced throughout and the focal open kitchen is the place to watch the chefs at work. Warm and comfortable with terra cotta, brick, big windows and lovely lighting, the scene is set. Bread and olive oil for dipping are served as you peruse the menu. Pizzas are a special feature with the pizza oven as a showpiece. There are several varieties as well as appetizers of rolled pizza dough filled with arugula and mozzarella and thin pizza dough with rosemary and garlic. Other starters include fresh mussels steamed in white wine and garlic, fritto misto, bruschetta with goat cheese and caramelized onions, small meat balls, cheese and meat platters. All are great as are the Caesar, seafood and beet salads. Pastas star with rigatoni Bolognese, penne with mozzarella and eggplant, gnocchi with ham and parmesan, ravioli and outrageous risotto with seafood. Oven roasted chicken, veal scaloppini, ahi with couscous, rack of lamb with caponatina and grilled flat iron steak with tomato salad and potato casserole show the variety of entrees. Add pork chops, whole fish, cioppino and decisions are difficult. Desserts of chocolate hazelnut tart and apple tart are a perfect ending. The wine list is short, but excellent, and service keeps pace with the rest of the experience. Locanda Del Borgo brings a perfect Italian dining choice to a neighborhood hoping for such a restaurant.
