Enter this fabulous space and you know you are in for a treat. The place is huge, but divided into sections. As you enter, a great looking bar encompasses a huge part of the room with TVs for those who want to watch. Booths done in gorgeous coverings (that continue throughout the restaurant on chairs both indoors and on the spectacular patio) surround the bar. Modern lighting, wood and wonderful photos on the walls set the scene. The more formal dining area shows off the focal kitchen where diners can watch the chefs at work. Small private dining areas are another feature. Servers are dressed in great brown T-shirts that go with the color scheme and are informative, friendly and efficient. The all day/all night menu has something for every taste and appetite. Start with crispy calamari with green curry, hummus, lush crab cakes, prawns, roasted marrow bones with cherry jam, and fried camembert with tomato jam that is a must. The baked chicken wings, pork belly sliders with house made pickles, tuna crudo, and cured meats make decisions impossible. And that is the just the beginning. In the salad category, do not miss the Tuscan bread salad, Cobb or spring greens with asparagus, peas, feta and green goddess dressing. Sandwich lovers delight in the crab cake sandwich, steak and cheese, shrimp po’boy, club, and prime burger. Entrees bring skirt steak, leg of lamb, short ribs, spit roasted chicken, and flat iron on the meat list. The fish list includes an amazing grilled salmon, seared tuna, mussels, clams, and cioppino. Pastas fill out the list. Sides are mandatory: grilled artichokes, grits-style polenta, gnocchi, and the best damn mac and cheese around. End with decadent desserts. The wine list is great to complement the food. Many items are offered in two sizes, wine and beer in half glasses too. Prices are affordable and with late night dining to add to the fun, primebar is a fabulous addition to downtown dining. It’s hip, hot and happening.
