Enter this terrific space and feel like you are in an Italian trattoria -- or pizzeria! Bright and casual, with a huge bar for gathering or dining, fun tables and booths throughout the one room, and a wonderful exposed brick wall with murals. The show stopper is the focal pizza kitchen for all to see. Start with coal fired chicken wings as you decide on your meal. They are outrageous as is the antipasti platter that changes daily. Always full of meats, cheeses, pesto, olives, artichokes, and more, this is a perfect dish for sharing. The salads are incredible: try the arugula with Parmesan, prosciutto and olive oil, or the tri color with dried cranberries, gorgonzola and a fantastic olive oil dressing. The star is definitely the pizza -- Neapolitan or New York style; both are cooked in the Italian designed wood burning oven straight from Italy. The flour, tomatoes, and several much-used ingredients are all imported. Nothing but the best is their theory, and it works. The pizzas are thin crust, crispy but still tender and chewy, topped with fabulous choices. The pies cook in about a minute and a half as the oven is so hot-hot-hot. Napoletana choices include prosciutto, mozzarella and tomatoes, the Abruzzi with bufala mozzarella, Parmesan and basil, and the Calabria with pecorino and basil. The Sicilia is outstanding: a stuffed pie with ham, ricotta, mozzarella, mushrooms and tomatoes. The New York pizzas include Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. Everything sausage, meatballs, vegetarian and salami are the fillings. Then there are “assemble your own” pizza and calzones as well. And for white pizza lovers, the Calabria is heavenly. Several enticing sandwiches round out the menu. Don’t miss the Nutella pizza for dessert or go for tiramisu and cannoli. There is a terrific wine list along with beer and fun specials. Add friendly service, and Marco’s brings a new, terrific adventure in pizza to Denver.
