The Capital Grille brings to Denver all the "pomp and circumstance" that one might imagine with its name. Located in Larimer Square, the freestanding building is gorgeous. A bevy of valets greet you and offer complimentary parking to the guests. As you enter, hosts are waiting to greet guests and make each person welcome. The décor is warm, with lots of wood, partitioned off dining areas for conversation and wonderful paintings on the walls (including portraits of famous folks from this area). The well-trained staff is unbelievably excellent, as they make your experience very special. The open kitchen is a focal point for those who want to watch the Black Angus dry-aged beef being cooked. Start with lobster and crab cakes with corn relish, steak tartare, caviar, oysters or a terrific pan-fried calamari with hot cherry peppers. The prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella with vine-ripened tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette is awesome. The French onion soup is a must with excellent gooey cheese, and equally exciting is the creamy, rich lobster bisque. The tomato and onion or wedge with blue cheese and bacon are two options for salads. Steak is the star here: dry-aged sirloin, porterhouse, sliced steak, filet or Delmonico--all seasoned with their special blend that forms a crusty top. If you prefer, try veal chop, lamb, chicken or one of several delicious seafood options including whole lobster that comes grilled or steamed. Sides for sharing round out the menu with mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and asparagus--a few of the favorites. Wonderful homemade desserts finish the feast: coconut cream pie (with an ethereal crust), flourless chocolate cake, mousse, crème brûlée or ice cream. The extensive wine list covers all price ranges with several nice wines by the glass. Lunch is served, and valet parking is available. An evening at Capital Grille is one in which no detail has been overlooked and is truly terrific in the Denver dining scene.
