Root Down brings great dining to the Highlands at 33rd and Osage. Built in a 1950’ service station, Chef/Owner Justin Cucci has created a mid-century modern décor including a bowling alley lane as his bar, 50s Knoll chairs, and modern phone collection on the walls. A refinished basketball court floor adds to the fun. The bar area is fabulous for gathering with friends for a meal, while the main dining area brings booths, banquette seating, and an upbeat feel with an open kitchen as the focal point for globally influenced seasonal cuisine including vegetarian and vegan offerings along with fish, poultry and beef. Small plates are amazing and perfect for sharing or for dinner. An example of the caring, a special water system brings the best tasting water---and sparkling—without guests ordering “bottled” water. Start with the outrageous carrot and red curry soup with apple-pear chutney, veggie burger sliders on “nun buns” that please all, gnocchi with oven dried tomato compote, goat cheese panna cotta, winter squash pudding, portobello and mascarpone wontons, and seared scallops with apple and ginger slaw. Entrees include grilled beef tenderloin with apple potato gratin and Moroccan red snapper with couscous and risotto. Decadent desserts include chocolate pudding, apple tart and cheesecake with a graham cracker crust. The wine list is terrific, and service outstanding. Weekend brunch is not to be missed! Root Down offers exciting new dining to the Denver scene.
