This upscale space has a contemporary design and a warm, comfortable feel. The first floor’s many tables and booths offer a clear view of the chefs at work in front of the tandoor oven. Upstairs, a great bar and spacious seating create a comfortable background for diners. The food is some of the best Indian food in town. Start with poppadums and dipping sauces of tamarind and spicy mint. The array of appetizers could easily make a meal. Choose from crab pakoras, spicy chicken wings, lamb samosas and wonderful onion fritters. Entrées shine with a perfectly done tandoori chicken marinated in yogurt, spices and lemon juice. There are several specialties of chicken, lamb, fish, and shrimp and vegetarians will feel at home with a huge selection of offerings that include saag paneer with cheese and spinach, garden vegetables in spice-laced cream and the tastiest eggplant mixed with tomatoes, onions and spices. Whatever you order, the addictive Nan breads are a must, arriving warm and puffy, not greasy. Decisions can be difficult so be sure to share. Very good traditional Indian desserts such as kheer, kulfi and rice pudding end the meal. There’s beer, wine and the best-ever chai tea to complement the food. Don’t miss India House, a great addition to LoDo dining.
