Located at Hotel Teatro in downtown Denver, Restaurant Kevin Taylor reflects tasteful tradition and fine food. The décor is simple, but elegant, with green and gold colors suggesting a more contemporary feel. The appointments on each table are beautiful and add to the experience. Servers are knowledgeable about the food and wine and offer perfect service. Indulge in a four- or five-course tasting menu or order à la carte. A special menu offers patrons the chance to enjoy a special three-course dinner for $45. Kevin Taylor's long acclaimed expertise manifests itself in every mouthful. Start with a wonderful amuse of mint ravioli with vegetables or an oyster topped with caviar and a bite of blood-orange sorbet. Trying to choose from any section of this menu is almost impossible; the warm Maine lobster Napoleon, Kumomoto oyster cocktail with jalapeño, seared foie gras with toasted macadamia nuts, sweet corn soup or chilled golden tomato gazpacho are marvelous appetizers. The grilled heirloom tomato with goats cheese, asparagus and arugula vinaigrette and the crisp bacon, lettuce and tomato salad with Gorgonzola and Pommery mustard are to die for. The fish entrées include roast pave of Atlantic salmon and Arctic char, the most amazing seared Hawaiian tuna with Japanese hamachi and fresh wasabi risotto, seared diver scallops with pickled figs and bouillabaisse sauce and Spanish-almond-crusted crispy soft-shell crabs bring flavors that burst in your mouth with every accompaniment chosen to complement the fish. The "coq au vin"--chicken with potatoes, mushrooms and tomatoes--brings an exciting rendition of this popular dish, while pork tenderloin, lamb loin and venison please all. The honey-lacquered squab with wild rice, caramelized mango, grilled scallions and foie gras sauce deserves "best dish" on any menu. Dessert is an essential indulgence. Kevin Taylor's liquid center chocolate cake tops any in Denver, and the peanut butter cup with homemade English toffee, peanut butter ice cream and chocolate sauce is a dream come true for sweet lovers. Other marvelous endings include lemon curd Napoleon, milk chocolate and white-peach semifredo, crème brûlée and soufflés. If the caramelized pineapple Napoleon with passion fruit panna cotta, macaroons and passion-fruit syrup encased in spun sugar is available, you must try this unbelievable creation. Restaurant Kevin Taylor might very well be the best dining experience in the city. The Teatro, the most special hotel in Denver, is the perfect complement to a night of elegant dining.
