The aptly named Il Vicino, meaning neighborhood, is an informal Italian dining spot that gives you a warm welcome and invites you to have fun. When you walk in, just place your order, pick a table and wait to have your entire meal, including drinks, served to you. The bright red-tiled wall that surrounds the wood-burning oven is the focal point of the room. The chefs create pizzas and more, all prepared fresh and in short order. Try the pizza margherita, made with marinara, mozzarella and fresh basil, or the pollo e pumante—a thin, slightly crisp pizza topped with roasted chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers and mozzarella. To create your own, mix and match sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, pesto and several other meat and vegetarian options. The Caesar and house salad aim to please. The perfectly grilled roasted chicken combines chicken, pesto mayonnaise, and mozzarella and artichoke hearts. Other options include tuna, mushroom, capicola and turkey. Calzones, lasagnas and pannini also make nice choices. Save room for chocolate silk pie, a chocolate layer torte, cheesecake or tiramisu. Wine and beer are available as well.
