This little restaurant serves some of the best Ethiopian food in Denver. The staple of Ethiopian cooking is berbere—a combination of ginger, cardamom, coriander, fenugreek, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, allspice, red chili peppers, paprika, turmeric and black pepper. Each Ethiopian restaurant offers its own combination. Owner and cook Haime Asfaw learned hers from her mother in Africa. She produces flavors that tantalize your taste buds without burning them. Request it mild, hot or extra hot. Wot (sauce) comes with many different meat choices—chicken, beef and lamb—cooked to perfect tenderness. All meals are served atop injera, the spongy and tangy national bread of Ethiopia. Injera is used in place of forks and knives; simply pull off a portion and scoop up your food. If you’ve never tried Ethiopian food, Arada is the place to go for your first experience. The restaurant is bright, clean and neat. Don’t miss the lunch buffet at very reasonable prices. |
