House is one charming little “house” in the great Berkeley neighborhood. The front patio is delightful and the side outdoor space is a perfect complement to the main house.

Enter the restaurant and the first room features a cozy bar with tables for gathering or enjoying a meal while the main dining room offers comfortable seating in booths, banquettes, and tables. On the walls, colorful, fun paintings by local artists brighten the scene creating a warm and friendly feel. The excellent food is perfect for the setting. Start with warm bread, sweet corn and pepper cakes with a hint of spice, house cheese wontons, apple pork skewers, shrimp cakes, and savory smoked trout spread. Tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches is a hit as are the wonderful dinner salads offered as a side or meal: salmon Caesar, ahi tuna and spinach, chicken and chilled noodle or the best peach and grilled pork combination. Thin crust pizzas are a must with the Dog House (sausage and pepperoni, the Tennyson (BBQ with roasted chicken), the Elitch Garden (greens mozzarella and avocado with balsamic vinaigrette, or the special (salmon, onion and crème frâiche). Turkey pot pie, bison meatloaf, striped bass, and salmon start the list of entrees. Add chicken pork tenderloin, steak, mac and cheese, and vegetarian lasagna that make decisions difficult. All offer great flavor and spice, are generous in portion, and are terrific treats. Leave room for decadent desserts of apple crumb pie a la mode, peach tart, lemon bars, and brownies. The service is friendly and excellent, the wine and beer list shine in choices and price. Owners Chris Colbea and Dave Kermass charm all as they greet and care for all the guests. House is really home and a great place for dining in this very popular area.
