Avenue Grill just keeps getting better with age, serving upscale food in classy, casual surroundings. The place abounds with energy and pleases folks of all ages and appetites. Take a seat at the huge bar and enjoy signature martinis, beer and great wines. Pictures of diners from opening days amuse patrons waiting for a seat in the crowded dining room. At night, white linens are added to the tables, giving dinner a more formal, upscale ambience. While the talents of a well-schooled chef shine in complicated presentations, the menu still appeals to those who want a casual lunch or dinner. Start with chilled oysters on the half shell or seared chicken-and-spinach pot stickers spiced with soy, ginger and chili dip. Steamed mussels in red-curry broth, wild-mushroom strudel and clam chowder make other excellent choices. The Avenue Grill burger, accompanied with crispy fries, rates tops in town. Mahi-mahi fillet and a roasted turkey BLTA make other great entrées for lunch or dinner. The chicken and artichoke salad with feta, greens, olives and peppers, served with honey-Dijon dressing, is a marvelous dish. For pasta, try the grilled-chicken ziti, with a light and spicy sun-dried tomato, basil and roasted-pepper cream sauce. Asian barbecued half duck comes with orzo, vegetable spring rolls and hot mustard. Desserts are a must--crème brûlée, decadent chocolate cake with caramel, chocolate mousse, berry cobblers and ice creams. Service is very special, with friendly, informative and excellent staff. For a night of terrific food and great fun, Avenue Grill rates tops in Denver.
