Assignments is the restaurant at the International Culinary Schools at the Art Institutes, a long name. Students are doing their homework and get stellar grades in the classes of cooking and serving. The space is warm and comfortable with a small bar and great view of the kitchen. One group of students take the orders, prepare many dishes tableside, and take care of all your needs while others do the cooking. Teachers supervise all, but definitely do not have to “give lessons” to this group. The amuse changes nightly for starters as does the bread. Enjoy the cornbread when available. Starters include cheese with olives, white anchovy, almonds and grilled bread, truffle fries with parmesan (a must), phyllo wrapped shrimp and gyoza. Caesar salad prepared tableside is a real treat topped with white anchovies. Miso marinated chicken breast with fried rice, a pork chop with balsamic syrup and truffle fries, Portuguese seafood stew, strip steak with brandy cream, and grilled Colorado lamb chops with couscous make decisions difficult for entrees. Each is lovely to see and excellent to taste. The steak is finished tableside as are the cherries jubilee for dessert. Don’t miss the sticky toffee pudding where the culinary team tops each with spun sugar. An excellent wine list is offered to complement the food. Prices are affordable and there is lots of parking to add to the fun. Assignments rates top marks for all.
