Second Home is the new addition to the J.W. Marriott in Cherry Creek North and it is sensational to see. The bar lounge area has cowhide panels in the walls, a fabulous bar with Colorado wood, fabulous lighting and terrific furniture in black, white, red, browns and tones that say welcome and enjoy the scene. The main dining room features huge windows that open as an entrance to the patio, a focal open kitchen and the warm tones repeated. Fabrics are lovely, a wall of bark is the star in the private dining area and the wine wall is spectacular. The food is definitely comfort food done incredibly well with something for every taste and appetite. Start with the array of pizzas—from white and margarita to several toppings that include sausage, chicken, and shrimp with pesto. The dough is soft and delicious, the toppings excellent. Appetizers include lamb riblets with barbecue sauce and slaw, tuna tartar served on masa pancakes, BBQ pork sliders, crab cakes and beer battered baby artichokes. The lobster cog and apple and mango chicken salads are enough for a meal and perfect for sharing. For the choices off the rotisserie, try the chicken or leg of lamb or enjoy braised beef short ribs, hangar steak and filet. Sandwiches of roasted chicken, olive oil poached tuna salad, grilled veggies and lamb French dip and the burger make decisions difficult. Do not miss the miso glazed black cod, wild salmon or tuna “two Ways” casserole where poached tuna combined with wasabi cream egg noodles and peas are topped off with flash grilled ahi. Sides are addictive with corn fritters, mashed potatoes, onion rings, mac-n-cheese and cheddar-chive biscuits. End with decadent, outrageous desserts: crème brulee, molten chocolate cake and the best snicker’s fudge candy bars with gelato and the oatmeal chocolate cookie baked to order and topped with gelato. Daily fun features for each day of the week end the fun. The wine list is nice, service great and prices affordable. Breakfast and lunch are served and the new patio features a huge open-pit fire to add to the scene. Second Home is a delight and definitely filling a need in Cherry Creek dining. |
