Imperial is one of Denver’s favorite Chinese restaurants boasting audience and editor’s awards from numerous publications. The space is beautiful with a great fish tank in the entry along with lovely pieces of art. Partitions in the large dining room allow you to enjoy an intimate dinner, or bring a large group of friends. Start with the delicious scallion pancakes, fried and served with a salty dipping sauce. The coconut shrimp are a must and chicken dumplings a delight. Try a cup of hot and sour soup, heavy with pepper, or a bowl of wonton soup. Shanghai-braised duck comes in a broth filled with bok choy, squash and black mushrooms. The menu offers many classics but exciting new items make dining very special. Order a whole sea bass smothered in Szechwan, black bean or ginger sauce or salmon with Thai basil for your entrée. The mango chicken brings great flavors, and the grilled lamb chops with salad are divine. Imperial’s spicy sesame chicken attracts many fans as does crispy game hen, steak wrapped around asparagus, and spicy garlic shrimp. Trying to make a decision can be difficult. Cooling mango sorbet, tiramisu, ginger and liche nut ice cream make a perfect ending. Service is perfect and the wine list nice. Hope that fortune cookie reads, “ Let me come back soon.”
