If you're looking for an authentic Irish pub in Denver, look no further than LoDo's Celtic Tavern. This place could well be in Belfast. The décor is pure old Irish for lads and lassies to enjoy. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Knowing the difference between single- and double-malted Scotches is a real plus here. Tavern snacks include Welsh potato skins filled with rarebit cheese sauce and smoked bacon, beer-battered oysters with red-curry dipping sauce and the ploughman's platter (a selection of cheeses, hard salami, crusty French bread, Branston pickled relish and fresh fruit). For lunch, don't miss the Black Mountain shepherd's pie (ground lamb and beef with carrots, onions and peas in a wonderfully rich brown sauce topped with a pile of mashed potatoes). Dinner entrées feature corned beef and cabbage, Jeremiah's steak and Murphy's pie, New England cod fish cakes and chicken piccata. Top off your meal with coconut crème brûlée, strawberry-rhubarb crisp or bread pudding with a hot cup of coffee. |
